Azril graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia in 2005 and thereafter undertook a Diploma in Syariah & Legal Practice at the same university. He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2006, admitted as a Kuala Lumpur Syari’e Lawyer in 2012 and was in continuous practice in Malaysia until 2014.
In Malaysia, as a civil practitioner he was exposed to banking litigation matters, debt recovery for Islamic and conventional facilities, civil litigation in the area of contractual disputes, sales of goods and Syariah family disputes which included amongst other things inheritance disputes. During 8 years of practicing in Malaysia, he gained a lot of experience in litigation and negotiation thus enabling him to narrow down and resolve disputes more effectively and efficiently.
Azril was called to the Brunei Bar and admitted as a Brunei Syarie Lawyer in December 2014. He is currently working under the YHP Syariah Department with Syariah matters as his main focus, which mostly relates to family disputes, faraid, hibah and Syariah criminal law amongst others.
He is the Chairman of the Permanent Committee of a local charity, Brunei Council on Social Welfare which gives free legal service and advice to deserving members of public.
