Shahray graduated from Mara Institute of Technology (now known as Mara University of Technology) in 1994 with Bachelor of Mass Communication majoring in Public Relations. Shahray then graduated from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) in 1998. During his chambering in Kuala Lumpur he enrolled himself as a part time student at Islamic International University of Malaysia (IIUM) and received his Diploma in Shariah Law and Practice in 1999. He was admitted to the High Court of Malaya in April 1999. He practised briefly in Civil law in Malaysia thereafter until 2000 when he moved to Brunei. Shahray has been practising Shariah Law in Brunei since 2000 and is one of the first 9 Shariah Lawyers to receive Sijil Peguam Syari’e (Shariah Lawyer Practising Certificate) in May 2003. Throughout he has been a very active Shariah civil and criminal litigator.
Shahray’s cases appear in Laporan Undang-Undang Shariah Brunei and also in Shariah Law Reports in Malaysia. He is well known for his litigation work in Shariah family law and Shariah criminal Law in Brunei. He has done cases involving divorce, dissolution of marriage, child custody, Muslim child adoption, wife and children maintenance, jointly acquired property (‘harta sepencarian’), gift for divorce wife ( mut’ah) and shariah criminal cases. He also does pro bono work for a local charity known as Majlis Kesejahteraan Masyarakat (MSM).
He has been a Shariah lawyer under Yusof Halim & Partners since year 2002. The Selangor born Shariah lawyer is also a fan of Chelsea Football Club and hopes to continue to serve the public in the Shariah Courts, Negara Brunei Darussalam.
